If you work in the restaurant industry, you know how demanding it can be. From preparing meals to cooking and serving, it requires a lot of fast-paced work. An essential part of restaurant management is to ensure that the kitchen and dining area are as clean and hygienic as possible. Not only will you receive better ratings from the health department, but your customers will enjoy the ambiance cleanliness creates.

How to Maintain A Clean Restaurant

Is your restaurant using the best practices for a top-notch and tidy business? Make sure your cleaning schedule includes these 6 tips to keep your restaurant immaculate. Click To Tweet

1) Keep Linens Clean

Napkins, tablecloths, and curtains should always be cleaned daily. Clean linens are not only hygienic, but unsightly stains could scare potential customers away. It’s always a good idea to have spare, new linens in a storage closet.

2) Sanitize the Fridge and Freezer

Neglecting the refrigerator and freezers is unfortunately common in many restaurants. No one likes cleaning the fridge, especially with old, stuck food stains from cold temperatures. Nonetheless, it’s important to sanitize the inside and outside of the fridge and freezer on a consistent basis to ensure the food being stored is as fresh and germ-free as possible.

3) Clean Cooking Surfaces and Utensils

With each new dish, your staff must clean cooking surfaces and use new utensils. It’s even more critical to cook on sanitized surfaces when working with raw meat. In addition, many people have food allergies and could become seriously ill if their food was cooked on contaminated surfaces, or with contaminated utensils. All restaurants should prioritize the health of customers – which means sanitizing everything after each meal.

4) Wash Hands Correctly

This one seems like a given. However, many adults aren’t washing their hands properly. There should be a sink in the kitchen specifically for washing hands. Hang up signs in the kitchen and the restroom by sinks, reminding employees when they should wash their hands, and for how long. Employees should be educated about the health hazards associated with improper hand washing.

5) Schedule Time for Cleaning

The restaurant industry is fast-paced and physically demanding. When employees are trying to get off work, late at night, cleaning can often be neglected. It’s absolutely essential to have a scheduled time for cleaning. This can be at the end of each employee’s shift.

6) Clean Restrooms Daily

Don’t skip over this important step! Restrooms should be checked hourly. Having a checklist where employees add their initials next to each task can ensure that the restrooms are up to standards. Customers will often-times judge an entire restaurant experience on the restroom’s cleanliness.
